Moving a blog
I’ve been using iWeb for my rarely updated blog, but I’m moving over to Blogger for a few reasons. The biggest reason is that I would like to be able to make the occasional blog posts when I’m away from my desktop computer. Not that I post to the blog often, but at least I’d like to leave the option open. The second slightly less important reason, which has been bugging me a bit since I started using iWeb, is the horrible HTML output. While its output is technically valid HTML, it is so completely presentation-oriented instead of being semantically structured.
Downsides to using Blogger are that the style of the blog will not be consistent with my main homepage and that including images or other media in the blog will be somewhat messy, but I can live with that. My main homepage will still be maintained using iWeb even with its problems, but that’s OK since I don’t have to edit it when I’m away and I don’t feel like putting in the effort to maintain a semantically structured website. And who knows? Maybe a future version of iWeb might support editing web sites that are also semantically structured information resources instead of simply being visually pretty billboards.
I expect I’ll be moving the few posts on my old blog to Blogger over the next few days.
