My photograph in the Encyclopedia Britannica

Fira at Santorini

I am an admirer of the Encyclopedia Britannica. I have a full hardcover set from 1990 at home, and often used to simply browse through it at random. And I’d love to get a new set, as in actual books, in maybe a decade. So it’s a real honor when a random web search turned up a photograph of mine in an article for Thera, also called Santorini, in the online version of the Encyclopedia Britannica. You or your institution might need a subscription to the encyclopedia to look at the article, though.

I’m also happy to see that the Encyclopedia Britannica has respected the terms of the license for the photograph, the Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike, where one can freely use and distribute it as long as I’m attributed and the license remains the same. Not that I would have expected anything less from such a prestigious institution.

Anyways, it appears that this particular photograph of Santorini seems to be much more popular than I realized it would be. While I only expected it to be one among many in a gallery of photos in Wikipedia, having it turn up in other places gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling.

Congrats! It’s pretty, even if I don’t know what the hell it is. ;P
